"Singapore's struggle to achieve internal self-goverment in the period 1945-1959 has its costs."
Was it worth it? Give at least 2 reasons to support your stand.

It was worth it. If not for Singapore's effort, Singapore today would still probably be under British's rule and their law. I felt that the British could not understand the needs of the people as well as the locals government could.

Firstly, many major riots occurred in the 1950s, and i want to highlight two of it, that showed the displeasure of the people under British's rule. One of the riots was the Anti-National Service. The law implemented by the British was that male between 18 to 20 have to sign up for national service and those who failed to do so will be punished. The British should have be more understanding and could have given them more time.

Secondly, there was another strike that triggers the idea of trying to achieve self-government in Singapore. It was the Hock Lee Bus riot. The workers were not happy as they wanted a higher place and a better condition. The British should have shown more interest in the people's feeling and might do something that helps.

In conclusion, the effort they make was definitely worth it. Singapore couldn't have been that successful today and gleaming with prosperous, if we did not have our forefather’s determined attitudes and challenging minds. Singapore had gone through rather much, and had paid the price, and in the end, the result showed that it was worth it.
